Abstract

The traditional agricultural system of indigenous communities is part of local knowledge that develops through interactions between humans and the natural environment. This study aims to analyze the traditional agricultural system of the Sentani community around Lake Sentani from the perspective of ecological anthropology and cultural ecology. The study was conducted using a literature study method through a review of various scientific sources discussing the Sentani community, local knowledge, and natural resource management practices in Papua. The results of the study indicate that the traditional agricultural system of the Sentani community developed through the use of family gardens with local food crops such as sweet potatoes, taro, and bananas that are adaptable to the ecological conditions of the lake area. Local community knowledge plays an important role in determining land management, plant selection, and planting times. These findings indicate that the traditional agricultural system of the Sentani community is a form of ecological adaptation of the community to the environment and reflects the importance of local knowledge in sustainable natural resource management.
